West Indian and Jamaican International cricketers Andre Russell and Chris Gayle and their respective teams have advanced to the semi-finals of the Indian Premier League for 2016. Chris Gayle and his team the Royal Challengers Bangalore finish the group stages in 2nd place with 8 wins and 6 losses racking up 16 points.

For Andre Russell and his team Kolkatta Knight Riders they finished 4th in the group stages with the same number of wins and losses as the Royal Challengers Bangalore but their net run rate was lower. The Royal Challengers Bangalore has a net run rate of +0.932 while the Knight Riders who were the Champions in 2014 has a net run rate of +0.106.

The Semi-Finals and the Qualifier will take place on May 24th, 25th and 27th with the final to take place on the 29th.

Chris Gayle and Royal Challengers Bangalore will play against the debutant team in this year’s IPL the Gujarat Lions with the winner advancing straight to the final. If Chris Gayle and his team lose, they will have a 2nd bite of the cherry as they will play the winner of the Kolkatta Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad game for another chance to advance to the final.

Chris Gayle has never won the IPL, his best finish in the IPL was coming 2nd in 2009 and 2011. Andre Russell on the other hand is the first Jamaican to win the IPL as he was part of the Kolkatta Knight Riders team that won the tournament in 2014.
