Jamaican man arrested at Airport, charged with Ganja possession

A Jamaican man reportedly held with 17 pounds of compressed ganja on Tuesday, as he was about to board a flight at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) is to appear in court next week.

Twenty-eight-year-old Michael Preddie of Fairfield district, Spur Tree in Manchester, has been charged with breaching the Dangerous Drug Act.

The NMIA Police Post reports that at about 9:16 Tuesday night, officers were carrying out checks with the assistance of a narcotics canine when they were alerted to a suitcase.

Preddie was summoned and asked to identify his luggage.

It was searched and the ganja, estimated at a street value of $102,000 was allegedly found.


He is scheduled to appear before the St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday.
