Bailey signs deal in Bundesliga

Bailey is now the first Jamaican born player to sign for a Bundesliga team.

19 year old Jamaica U-23 international player Leon Bailey has signed for German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen on a 5 year deal for £11.5 million pounds.

The 5’11 inch winger who can also operate as a forward has moved from KRC Genk where he played 56 games for the club while scoring 8 goals for them. Bailey who was the young professional footballer of the Year in the 2015-16 season in Belgium was his clubs top scorer in the UEFA Europa League this season with 4 goals which he scored in his 531 minutes played in that competition.

Bailey who scored on his Jamaica U-23 debut in 2015 in a 4-0 win over the Cayman Islands senior team has now become the first Jamaican born footballer to sign for a team in the German Bundesliga. However Jamaican internationals have played in the past with Daniel Gordon (Borussia Dortmund) and currently Michael Hector with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen are presently 9th in the German Bundesliga standings and they are also in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League where they will play Atletico Madrid.

Bailey will be available for selection for the UEFA Champions League.
