Downswell is new Technical Advisor

Head Coach of Reno FC in the Red Stripe Premier League in Jamaica Wendell Downswell has been appointed as Technical Advisor of the Jamaica U-17 national team by the Jamaica Football Federation.

Downswell has history being Jamaica’s coach at youth tournaments as he helped Jamaica qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2011 and he also was Head Coach helping Jamaica to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2001 which is Jamaica’s first and only participation in an U-20 World Cup.

Downswell will be working hand in hand with Head Coach Andrew Edwards as the U-17 Reggae Boyz prepare for the CONCACAF U-17 Championship in Panama later this year.

Downswell who was Jamaica’s senior team Head Coach between November 2004 and 2006 had a 14 game unbeaten record as the National team as Head Coach which started from his first game until the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup where Jamaica lost 3-1 to the United States in the Quarter-Finals.

The 58 year old says he is delighted by this appointment.

“It is always a pleasure to work in the national programme regardless of the role and the area. We have some outstanding youngsters and I will give Andrew (Edwards) all the advice I can to help us get to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in India.”
