Jamaica’s 23 man Copa America Squad is revealed

Head Coach of the Jamaica National team Winfried Schaefer has named Jamaica’s squad for the 2016 edition of the Copa America tournament. The 23 man squad includes 6 local players and 9 English born players. This is Jamaica’s 2nd time participating in the Copa America tournament as in 2015 they were eliminated in the group stages. For the 2016 edition of the tournament Jamaica will play Mexico, Venezuela and Uruguay in the group stages.

The squad also represents the squad for Chile vs Jamaica International Friendly (except for players Andre Blake; Rodolph Austin and Westley Morgan) to be played on Friday, May 27 at 7:00pm local time. The players and delegation leaving from Jamaica depart at 2:05pm Tuesday 24th and arrive in Chile the next morning.

Jamaica beat Venezuela 2-1 in a friendly international at the Catherine Hall Stadium in March 2015 where Giles Barnes scored on debut and Darren Mattocks added a goal for the victory.

Jamaica faced Uruguay in the Copa America tournament last year in Chile where Jamaica lost 1-0. Jamaica also faced Mexico in the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup final where they lost 3-1.

Haiti will join Jamaica as the other CFU member to play in this tournament.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the Quarter-Finals of the tournament.
